A Multimedia Journey Through Past, Present & Future

Rise of the Rainbow invited audiences into a vibrant, inflatable city where virtual objects, stories and characters unfolded before their eyes. ImproVive makes it possible to embark on a multimedia journey through Augmented Reality (AR) technology, transforming the theatre experience into an interactive exploration of history, identity and community.
A Fusion of Theatre, History & AR
Wearing AR headsets, visitors experienced the real environment enriched with digital layers. Archival footage, interviews and animated virtual elements appeared within the space, creating a powerful and emotional narrative. Guided by performers in small groups, audiences moved across the stage of Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
The experience brought LGBTQIA+ history to life—from the first Pride protests and the AIDS crisis to the ongoing fight for trans and intersex rights. Developed in collaboration with DROPSTUFF MEDIA, the performance allowed visitors not just to observe, but to actively take part in this colorful, evolving world.
ImproVive was responsible for the full AR technology stack of the production, including:
- Designing and developing the custom AR application
- Building specialized content-management tools
- Creating a tool to precisely align virtual objects with the physical theatre environment
- Synchronizing 70 AR headsets across a 375 m² stage during the performance
