ImproVive will be presenting at Reality Check Festival in Enschede. The Reality Check Festival is held on 21 and 22 March at the Metropool & Wilmink theater. This year we will be talking about our projects on Virtual Humans and AI with applications in the area of training and museums on 21 March. We will also be presenting our newest artistic project Shuffles and Seeds during a workshop on 22 March. You can read more about our presentation and our workshop below.
Talk 21 March: Virtual Humans and AI
ImproVive has been exploring the possibilities of AI and Virtual Humans for the past year. We have been delving into questions such as “What makes dialogue believable?” and “How can game technology and AI be combined to create immersive experiences?” We are now applying these insights to training solutions and museum installations.
Large Language Models, such as ChatGPT, combined with digital characters and speech technology, allow us to create believable conversations. However, believable dialogue also encompasses emotions, non-verbal expression, and vocal nuances.
In our presentation, we will demonstrate how we can apply this to both single and multi-character interactions. Through our examples, you’ll observe how AI serves as a tool for designers to develop intricate conversations, storylines, and training scenarios. Additionally, game technology, character design, and animations contribute to enhancing believability.
Workshop 22 March: AI in interaction and embodiment
ImproVive has been utilizing AI across various application areas. In this workshop, we invite you to immerse yourself in a VR experience we’ve developed called “Shuffles in Seeds.”
In “Shuffles and Seeds,” we explore the concept of embodiment within VR. We gradually construct and deconstruct your virtual body, leading to mutations and changes in your sense of embodiment. You’ll witness this transformation by observing your own body and by interacting with a companion—an entity that mirrors your actions but also retains memories of both your actions and those of previous players. Your interactions and the collective memory of the companion blend together, offering a unique interactive experience.
During the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to experience “Shuffles and Seeds” firsthand. Additionally, we invite you to delve into the concept of embodiment and its implications. We’ll begin with a brief introduction to our exploration of embodiment and the development of this project. Following the VR experience, we’ll open the floor to questions and discussions surrounding the concept of embodiment.
